Niskayuna CSD voters approve budget, bus purchase and elect two members to the board of education

On Tuesday, May 19, Niskayuna Central School District voters passed a $121,302,975 budget proposal for the 2026-27 school year by a vote of 1,047-408.

The approved budget will add a middle school project-based learning teacher and support the expansion of special education and business programming. In total, there will be 4.7 full-time equivalent (FTE) staff positions created through the approval of the spending plan.

In addition, voters approved a $1,828,479 proposition for the purchase of nine new buses, 1,043-413, including two 30 passenger wheelchair diesel buses, one 36 passenger diesel bus, four 77 passenger full size diesel buses and two 70 passenger electric buses.

“We’d like to thank our staff, families and our broader community for their support of the school budget proposal,” said Superintendent of Schools Carl Mummenthey. “We believe this budget aligns with the district’s strategic priorities and the vision we’ve set forth for the future success of our students and community.”

Voters also elected Jessica LaFex (1,029 votes) and My’Lisse Kochan (736 votes) to fill the two open seats on the Niskayuna CSD Board. Jonathan Vaillancourt received 702 votes. The newly elected board members will begin their three year term on July 1, 2026. Those elected to the board of education serve without compensation and represent the community’s interests.
