The Niskayuna Central School District has been recognized by The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation as a “Best Communities for Music Education.”
The nonprofit aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.

A shining example is Niskayuna’s efforts to reimagine middle level education, which includes making music opportunities more equitable and accessible. Students are excelling thanks to new dedicated spaces and the integration of band, chorus and orchestra into their daily schedules. You can read more about these positive changes here.
Staff actively help promote music education across the district. High school music teacher Phil Pandori recently won the Manilow Music Teacher Award, an outreach program of musician and performer Barry Manilow. Pandori will receive a $5,000 cash award and $5,000 in Manilow Bucks to purchase instruments for his classroom.

Niskayuna is among more than 1,000 school districts and schools nationwide to receive the recognition this year. This marks the 27th year of the program.
Recipients are selected through an application and review process evaluating key indicators including district support, instructional time, participation rates, facilities and community support. To uphold the program’s integrity and credibility, all applications are independently reviewed and verified by a leading research and evaluation firm specializing in education and the arts. The process ensures that recognition reflects measurable achievement and sustained commitment.
