Second grade teacher Amelia Pesez was recently presented with a NYS Commendation Award by Sen. Jim Tedisco.
The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate extraordinary service to their local community and is the highest honor a state senator can bestow upon an individual in their district.
Pesez was nominated for the honor because of her exceptional dedication both inside and outside the classroom. She is often praised for building deep relationships with families and attending her students’ sporting events and concerts. Inside the classroom, she helps students reframe their challenges as “power moves” to help foster personal growth and reach their full potential.
“Receiving a commendation award from Senator Tedisco is such an honor,” said Pesez. “It is humbling to receive an award that recognizes the hard work and dedication of educators in our community, and it inspires me to continue the work that allows me to make meaningful contributions to the lives of students and families in the Niskayuna community.”
Tedisco visited Pesez’s classroom to present the award in person. During the presentation, he emphasized the importance of education and told the students they have an exceptional teacher.
