Niskayuna students honored for independent research

Seven Niskayuna Central School District students presented their independent research at this year’s Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair (GCRSEF) at RPI in March.  

Here is a quick synopsis of each student and their results:

Tejas Jacob – Grade 8 – Van Antwerp Middle School   

  • Improving the Aerodynamic Efficiency of Airplanes Using a Nature-inspired Adaptive Wing  
  • 1st place Junior Award:  GCRSEF Certificate, Thermo Fischer Scientific JIC Certificate, gold medal, $750 from RPI School of Science  
  • Invitation to STANYS State Science Congress in Syracuse, NY
  • Invitation to Thermo-Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (JIC).
  • Department of Defense STEM Leadership Prize
  • U.S. Air Force ISEF Award

Jason Lian – Grade 9 – Niskayuna High School

James Lian – Grade 12 – Niskayuna High School

  • LegiBERT: Applying Abstractive Text Summarization to Legislative Texts  
  • Third Honorable Mention Senior Award:  GCRSEF Certificate, ribbon, 
  • Invitation to STANYS State Science Congress, $100.00; teams split the prize money

Simran Utturkar – Grade 11 – Niskayuna High School

  • An Association between Urban Electric Vehicle Adoption and Childhood Asthma Hazard Rates  

Arin Khare – Grade 12 – Niskayuna High School

  • The Simulated Sea: A Molecular Dynamics Study of Salt Ion Hydration  

Arthur Leung – Grade 12 – Niskayuna High School

Jad Richani – Grade 12 – Niskayuna High School

  • An Artificially Intelligent Alternative for Visually Impaired Individuals 
  • UAlbany CNSE Design for Society Award

 

 

Tarun Jacob – Grade 12 – Niskayuna High School

  • TonoSense: A Novel Device for Intraocular Pressure Measurement  
  • 2nd Place Senior Division Award: GCRSEF Certificate, silver medal
  • Invitation to Regeneron ISEF in Los Angeles, CA, $750 from RPI School of Science
  • US Metric Association ISEF Award

Tarun Jacob will be traveling to Los Angeles from May 11 – 17 to present his research at ISEF (The International Science and Engineering Fair sponsored by Regeneron).  

Tejas Jacob will join James and Jason Lian in traveling to Syracuse on June 9 to present their research projects at STANYS NYS Science Congress.
