Food service team fuels student success in the summer

For the first time ever, serving delicious and nutritious school meals didn’t end when the final bell rang in June.

Throughout July and August, our dedicated food service team kept students nourished across various district summer programs, such as kindergarten readiness, English as a new language, extended school year and SUNY Schenectady summer school.

As part of this initiative, students received a total of 5,841 meals, including 2,858 breakfasts and 2,983 lunches.

Through the universal free meals program launched last year, every student received these meals completely free of charge.

“Offering free, nutritious meals allows students to focus more effectively on their learning,” said Director of Food & Nutrition Ross Tuskey. “We take immense pride in nourishing our students and we are thrilled that we were able to extend our meal services through the summer months.”
