Materials are being delivered and our contractors are beginning to assemble some equipment and staging materials for upcoming summer construction work at Van Antwerp Middle School.
Through the end of June, construction crews will be moving materials outside of the building, as a portion of the grass field adjacent to the current basketball courts is set up as a staging area. The courts will be closed over the summer to make way for an improved basketball/blacktop play area and a new playground.
Once students and staff are no longer in the building, asbestos removal will begin taking place in accordance with all necessary safety standards. While summer project work is underway, a section of the lawn near the main entrance along Story Avenue will become a parking area. Also over the summer, the cafeteria will be moved to the technology area so that construction can take place next year. The library and faculty rooms will be temporarily relocated to the ground floor.
There will most likely be changes to traffic patterns for student drop off and pick up during the 2025-26 school year, and the district will share more information about these changes closer to the start of the school year.
In the meantime, read additional information about the reimagining of middle level education in our district, including a new cafeteria addition, new music rehearsal spaces, a new library, classroom improvements throughout and a new playground built for students in grades five and six.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work to make Van Antwerp Middle School a state-of-the-art space for our community.
