Special Education Parent-Teacher Association to be established

First meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 11

Dear Families:

Niskayuna Central School District is proud to announce the creation of a Special Education Parent-Teacher Organization (SEPTO). This is an organization for those interested in the issues of educating special needs. The establishment of SEPTO is based on the survey of special education conducted this fall, where many families expressed an interest in this group.

The first SEPTO meeting will be held on Feb. 11, 2020, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Van Antwerp Middle School auditorium. We hope that families and staff will join us in the new adventure.

SEPTOs are designed to build strong partnerships among parents, teachers, administrators, existing PTOs and the community, for the benefit of families and children receiving special education services.

All SEPTO’s conduct regular business meetings during the school year just like any PTO/PTA. SEPTOs bring awareness and information about special education services, educational laws, and community support to members and the school community. The goal is that special education services are better understood so that all students are integrated and embraced by the school and community.

We are looking forward to this new organization and believe it will strengthen our school community as a whole. Please contact me at (518) 377-4666 x50734 or charrelson@niskyschools.org if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Camille Harrelson, Ed.D.
