Dr. Betty Rosa, Commissioner of Education and President of the University of the State of New York, visited the Niskayuna Central School District on Thursday, May 22
Dr. Rosa visited Craig Elementary School where she talked to first grade students in Mrs. Viddivo’s classroom and participated in a “Morning Meeting,” during which time students shared future goals and discussed problem solving. She also met many of our fourth grade students (and their parents) during a biography fair.
After her time at Craig, she traveled to Niskayuna High School where she visited Mr. Sogoian’s Robotics class and Mr. Peters’ AP Human Geography, taking the opportunity to learn about students’ projects and challenge their thinking through conversation.
Following the classroom visits, Dr. Rosa met with student leaders for a conversation in the high school’s coffee bar. Her visit concluded with an opportunity for her to see the high school’s choir students preparing for the school’s 32nd Annual Memorial Day Ceremony.
“It was a pleasure to host Dr. Rosa at Niskayuna today and to showcase what makes our schools unique,” said Superintendent of Schools Carl Mummenthey. “We have a vibrant and diverse learning community, and sharing it with our state education leaders is a tremendous opportunity and honor.”
