Ten Niskayuna High School students received a full scholarship to the Albany Pro Musica (APM) International Choral Festival at SUNY Albany.
The week-long festival brings together student ensembles from across the country to work with prestigious conductors and participate in a variety of rehearsals, performances and workshops.
“Music is a universal language in which we can all connect beyond just the notes on the page and collaborate to be better human beings, teammates and share a common goal of excellence in performance and the sharing of poignant written word through music,” Director of Choral Studies Christina Pizzino-Catalano said.
While a few Niskayuna students had already earned spots through the standard application process, APM reached out directly to invite additional Niskayuna singers to participate.
“While it was nice to work with other choral singers from Niskayuna, my favorite part about the festival was getting to work with the musicians that I did not know before this festival,” rising senior Ben Bixler said.
The full scholarship from APM and its sponsors allowed our students to participate in the event free of charge, with approximately $12,000 subsidized to cover tuition, room and board.
APM is the second festival in recent years that Niskayuna students participated in.
