Important bus transportation updates

Bus route information for the 2022-23 school year is now posted in PowerSchool. Follow the steps below to view your child’s bus route in the PowerSchool Parent/Student Portal.

Like many other districts in the region and across the country, we continue to experience a shortage of bus drivers. We held a successful driver recruitment drive last school year that added several new drivers to our transportation team, and we are continuing our outreach efforts. We appreciate your patience as we navigate the start of a new school year.

Please note that changes to your child’s transportation arrangements will require a minimum of one week to process. It’s important that you review and verify your child’s bus route, pick-up and drop-off information.

Viewing bus route information

To view student bus information, follow these steps:

  • Go to PowerSchool Parent/Student Portal at https://powerschool.niskyschools.org/. This information is not available in the PowerSchool Mobile App. You will need to log in using the web page from the link above.
  • Once logged in, you will be taken to the “Grades & Attendance” screen, with a listing of all classes and teachers.
  • On the left, click on the “Student Information” screen, where you will find morning and afternoon bus route names, stop descriptions, and pick-up/drop-off times.
  • If you have multiple students, you can switch between them by clicking on their names in the blue bar at the top of the screen.

If you need assistance logging into the portal, please contact the IT Department at techsupport@niskyschools.org.

Verifying your information

Bus route assignments are continually being updated in PowerSchool. Some routes may not yet be posted due to late registration or because they are still being processed. If you requested transportation but your route is not available, please check PowerSchool again later this week.

Please review your bus route information and contact the Transportation Department directly at 518-370-0160 or rkirk@niskyschools.org if the information listed is incorrect.

Transportation to childcare locations

For the 2022-23 school year, transportation will be provided from a single location and to a single location for each student for both the morning and afternoon with the exception of students who are riding designated district buses to established childcare providers in the afternoon.

Established childcare locations that we will transport to in the afternoon are: Capital Kids Care, KinderCare, Schenectady JCC, St. Kateri’s, TSL, Villa Fusco and Wiggles and Giggles Child Care Center. Families may designate an established childcare location and the day(s) their child will be transported there after school and the day(s) their child will be transported on their regular bus route. In order for this to happen, you must complete and return the “Transportation Request to Childcare Locations” form available at this link on the district website.

Other than going to these childcare locations, students will only ride their regular, designated bus route. There will be no bus passes and/or riding to friends’ houses on other routes.
