Thoughtexchange moderation: Why might a thought have been removed?

As a learning community, we are committed to a civil and productive dialogue about issues that affect our schools and students. Thoughtexchange is one tool that we use to have these discussions – and we’re grateful for community participation in them!

Depending on the type of Thoughtexchange the district is running, Thoughtexchange’s automated moderation or trained moderators may be used to identify thoughts for review prior to posting. Other exchanges are community-moderated, which means that thoughts can be reported by other users for review or can be removed by the district is they meet moderation criteria.

Criteria

While we strive for as much transparency as possible, we also need to ensure that conversation the district is hosting is safe and respectful.

  • Thoughts that are rude, hurtful or disrespectful will not be shared.
  • Thoughts that identify particular individuals or specific groups are not likely to be shared, especially when individuals are likely to be identified because of the size of the group.
  • Thoughts that contain links are also likely to be reviewed for the content at the link location, which can can delay the thought being posted. (It’s OK to share links, but please note that Thoughtexchange is primarily a place to exchange views with neighbors and fellow community members rather than a link-sharing platform.)

As with anything, there are some judgment calls that are made in deciding whether or not to share a thought. But we’re open to your feedback on that as well:

  • Think we’ve shared something inappropriate? Click on the report button in the upper right corner of the thought.
  • Think that we have removed a comment that should be shared? Give the district’s Communications Office a call at (518) 377-4666, ext. 50707 to talk it through!
