On Monday, December 11, Jack Salinetti, a fourth grader at Birchwood Elementary School, received a bone marrow transplant at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Jack is there being treated for leukemia. On the day of his transplant, he requested that people wear red and share photos with the hashtags #salinettistrong #jackthewarrior #JS5.
Many members of the Birchwood community took part and are now wishing Jack well as he recovers from the procedure. Several other Niskayuna teams and groups also joined in to support Jack, including his youth sports teams, on which he wears the number five jersey.
Birchwood administrators said the photos will serve as a source of comfort and courage as he continues his fight against leukemia.
