Niskayuna Central School District voters on Tuesday, May 17, approved the 2022-2023 school budget, with 1,277 casting votes in favor of the $99.8 million spending plan and 752 opposed. In the Board of Education election, Kimberly Tully was re-elected to the Board, and Elisabeth Cococcia and Judith Tomisman were elected to a first term.
Voters also approved the bus purchase proposition by a vote of 1,370 to 659.
The results, announced at Niskayuna High School shortly after polls closed, showed that 63% of 2,029 voters supported the budget.
The $99,853,607 budget proposal continues all current student programs and services and funds staff additions that are critical to meeting student and operational needs.
The 2022-23 budget proposal calls for a tax levy increase of 2.87% percent, which is the district’s limit for next year based on the state’s tax cap formula. Because the district is not exceeding the cap, the support of a simple majority of voters (50% plus one) is needed for the budget to be approved.
