Family Interest Form: Potential K-6 Regional Virtual Elementary School

Dear Families,

While we do not yet have state guidance for the 2021-22 school year, we continue to plan and hope for a full return to in-person education for all students. We also recognize that some families may prefer a remote-only option if this is available. The purpose of this message is to ask those who prefer this to let us know by completing a Google form at the link found later in this message.

The district is partnering with Capital Region BOCES and other school districts in the region to explore the potential for high-quality remote instruction for K-6 students whose families would like to opt for remote learning in the fall through a Virtual Elementary School. We will not be able to provide Niskayuna-specific remote option as we did last year. If you participate in a remote-only option for your student, he or she will be placed into a shared class with students from other participating school districts. It is likely that your child will be taught by a teacher from a different school district. All of the teachers are New York State Certified, highly qualified, and experienced teaching in a remote environment

All remote-only teachers will also receive professional development prior to the start of the school year to ensure the highest quality of teaching and learning. Additionally, in a BOCES remote-only program, there will be supports in place to help students and families including a counselor and an administrator assigned to the program.

The reality is that without more information from the state, it is not yet possible to know for certain if a remote option will be available. Yet, we do need to plan for this scenario and at this time we must report to Capital Region BOCES the number and grade-levels of students who would participate in an all-remote option. If you prefer this potential option, please let us know by completing the Google Form available at the link below by FRIDAY, JULY 30, 2021.

Virtual Elementary School Participation Form

After July 30, 2021, communications about this all-remote option will go to those who complete the form indicating they would like to participate. There is no need to complete the form if you do not plan to participate in a virtual elementary school.

We recognize that everyone is eager to know more about what the 2021-22 school year will look like and we share in that. Once guidance is received from the state we will be in a position to make plans and share information. In the meantime, your attention to this information is very important and is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Marie Digirolamo
Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
