Niskayuna CSD welcomes Sergeant Brandon Maura as new School Resource Officer

In partnership with the Niskayuna Police Department, the Niskayuna Central School District is looking forward to welcoming Sergeant Brandon Maura as the new school resource officer (SRO).

Sergeant Maura, a Niskyauna High School alumnus and a 13 year veteran of the Niskayuna Police Department, will be starting his new position during the first week of school. He is trained as a certified School Resource Officer by the State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association.

“Following significant community engagement and a thoughtful process, we are very pleased to be working with the Niskayuna Police Department to welcome an SRO to our district team,” said Superintendent of Schools Carl Mummenthey. “We are looking forward to welcoming Sergeant Maura to the district, and we are excited for him to develop relationships with our faculty, staff and students.”

“I am most looking forward to building strong relationships with staff and students,” Sergeant Maura said. “My goal is to build a program that can enable students to make positive choices through proactive engagement and education… and to foster a positive learning environment for all staff and students by concentrating on the safety and well being of all within the school community.”

During his time as a member of the police department, Sergeant Maura has represented the Niskayuna Police Department at most Niskayuna CSD functions, and has presented on a variety of topics to students of different levels throughout the district.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to be a valued part of the team and I cannot wait to get started!” said Sergeant Maura.
