The Niskayuna Communications Office uses strategic messaging, storytelling and engagement to keep our community informed, highlight progress and celebrate everything that makes our schools great.
Communications Tools
ParentSquare
ParentSquare is the K-12 communications platform Niskayuna uses as a way for teachers, staff and families to communicate in a centralized location. The district encourages families to activate their ParentSquare account using the contact information on file with the district.
ParentSquare can be accessed from a web browser or the ParentSquare mobile app. Families can choose whether to receive push notifications, get automatic language translations for messages and more.

Public Community Groups
The district has adopted the ParentSquare platform for all broadcast communications. Community members are encouraged to sign-up for ParentSquare to receive messages from the district. Community members have a choice to join a Public Community Group, Community Pool Announcements, or both.
PowerSchool
Parents or guardians can log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal to see all of their children’s information in one place. This includes grades, assignments, scores, attendance and schedules. Families that are new to the district will receive a letter in the mail to register.

Thoughtexchange and Engagements
Engaging With Our Stakeholders on Critical Topics
The district uses the Thoughtexchange platform to gather the perspectives of stakeholders on critical issues and topics. This online community engagement tool allows people to share thoughts on important issues at their convenience, rate the thoughts of others using a star system, and learn more about various perspectives in the community. The goal is to give the district a better understanding of community sentiment to help inform decision-making.
Budget Exit Survey
Niskayuna’s Communications Office, in collaboration with district leaders, holds a voluntary exit survey each year as part of the school budget vote. This exit survey is an opportunity for all registered voters to share their thoughts and opinions about the school budget, district communications and other initiatives.
