Niskayuna High School was named a 2025-26 School of Distinction by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) after achieving a milestone in student-athlete academic success.
For the past nine years, Niskayuna consistently earned School of Excellence honors by keeping at least 75% of its varsity teams at Scholar-Athlete status. This year, however, the school reached a new benchmark as all 33 varsity teams met the standard during their respective sports seasons.
To claim School of Distinction honors, a school needs 100% of its varsity teams to maintain a collective GPA of 90.0 or higher. Member schools submit their results at the end of each spring sports season.
Athletic Director Matthew Ronca officially accepted the award on Wednesday, Sept. 16, during an Athletic Council meeting.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and teachers. Reaching 100% team qualification shows that our students push for excellence in the classroom just as hard as they do in competition,” shared Ronca. “We couldn’t be prouder of their hard work.”
Niskayuna stood out as one of just 118 schools statewide to earn the recognition this year.
