The Structure of Board Policies

Board of Education policies are statements or guidelines that provide guidance and direction to school employees. Board of Education documents are typically grouped into policy series based on their subject area.

Series 1000: By Laws

Governance of the Board itself, including structure, roles, powers, meetings, and procedures.

Series 2000: Internal Operations

Day-to-day operational rules of the Board, such as policy development, records, and internal processes.

Series 3000: Community Relations

Interaction with parents, residents, organizations, media, and the broader community.

Series 4000: Administration

District leadership, superintendent authority, administrative organization, and oversight.

Series 5000: Non-Instructional / Business Operations

Finance, budgeting, facilities, transportation, purchasing, food service, and risk management.

Series 6000: Personnel

Employment policies for staff, including hiring, evaluations, labor relations, and benefits.

Series 7000: Students

Student rights and responsibilities, attendance, discipline, health, safety, and support services.

Series 8000: Instruction

Curriculum, instruction, assessment, graduation requirements, and instructional programs.
