Dear Community Members:
I want to provide an update on public access to the pool at Niskayuna High School for the 2018-19 school year. We are working toward restoring morning and evening access as soon as possible, potentially by mid-September. I very much appreciate your patience.
As you likely know, the pool was closed this summer for planned renovations to the filter/mechanical room. The pool just opened to our swim team earlier this week, in time for the interscholastic season.
We have developed a plan for public access to address the supervision/safety issues identified last year as well as feedback that many of you shared, including the need for consistency in staffing and pool availability and communication with our pool pass holders. At this time, we are working to staff the necessary positions, including a senior lifeguard and supervisory/clerical staff. We hope to have these positions filled in the coming weeks.
We have established the following hours for the pool when it reopens to the public:
- Monday through Friday: 5:30 to 6:50 a.m.; 8:30 p.m. to 9:50 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: Noon to 2:50 p.m.
We are also currently reviewing our pool fees, which we do each summer. As a result of increased staffing necessary to operate the pool, some level of increase is expected. Our goal is to keep the pool as affordable as possible for residents, while also recognizing the need to be fiscally responsible.
In closing, I recognize that we have not restored public access as quickly as some had hoped. However, in light of the concerns identified and shared last year, it is important to take our time to put the appropriate plan in place.
We will let you know as soon as we have a date that the pool will be open and when pool passes are available for the year. Thank you again for your patience.
