The district is continuing to work toward restoring public access to the pool at Niskayuna High School and is seeking to fill the necessary positions to staff it. There are currently openings for head lifeguards, lifeguards and an early morning receptionist.
More information about these positions and how to apply can be found on our employment page.
Another part of reopening public access to the pool is establishing pool pass rates for 2018-19. At the Board of Education meeting on Sept. 4, the following rates were established for residents for the year: $105 for individuals, $195 for households, and $68 for seniors/veterans. Non-resident passes are available at higher rates than resident passes.
Pool fees are set on an annual basis, so while a draft fee schedule presented included higher rates for future years, only the 2018-19 rates have been adopted.
As soon as the necessary staffing is in place, the process for purchasing pool passes will be announced.
We have established the following hours for the pool when it reopens to the public:
- Monday through Friday: 5:30 a.m. to 6:50 a.m.; 8:30 p.m. to 9:50 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: Noon to 2:50 p.m.
As noted previously, we will not be continuing with a mid-day swim during the week. A key aspect of safety changes in the district over the last several months has been limiting public access to facilities during the student day, and this change is consistent with that.
The plan that we have developed, including staffing, is designed to address the supervision/safety issues identified last year as well as feedback that community members shared.
