Dear Colleagues and Families,
With April Recess one week away, I am reaching out with a couple of updates, as well as to ask for your continued cooperation as we work through this school year together. I am so grateful for everything that you are all doing to make health, safety and learning top priorities in our community.
Please keep in mind that although COVID rates are much better than a few months ago, the pandemic is not over. Regardless of your plans for the upcoming April Recess, please continue to follow public health guidance, particularly as it relates to mask wearing, social distancing, and avoiding large gatherings. After April break, our focus is on finishing this year on a high note.
New York State Travel Update
You are likely aware that effective April 1, New York State is no longer requiring travelers returning from other U.S. states and territories to quarantine. You should see this change reflected on our daily screening form that day. Quarantines are still required after international travel. The Governor’s website has additional information about the required travel form and other precautions that are still in place.
CDC Physical Distancing Guidelines
We are aware that the CDC recently revised its physical distancing recommendations to reflect at least 3 feet between students in classrooms, reduced from the previous recommendation of 6 feet. We know that many of you may be wondering how this might impact our plans. We don’t have any updated guidance from New York State following this change. However, we have no immediate plans to make any changes and feel that stability is important as we close out the year. For next year, our plan is to have all students K-12 in-person every day and physical distancing certainly will be a significant consideration in this. We will continue to follow the recommendations of our state’s public health experts and will also be reconvening stakeholders as we make any decisions and be sure to keep everyone informed along the way.
In closing, while I know that we have some schools/grades in session toward the end of April Recess due to the need for make up days this year, I hope the upcoming break does provide all a chance for some relaxation and enjoyment.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
