Reopening Plan: Vulnerable Populations/Accommodations

We recognize that some students and staff members are at an increased risk for severe COVID-19 illness or live with a person who is at an increased risk. It is our goal that these individuals are able to safely participate in educational activities and reasonable accommodations will be made in these situations.

The annual Returning Student Registration process was amended this year to ascertain which students may be at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 or live within someone who is. This form included a link to the CDC website to support family understanding of the term Medically Vulnerable.

The information submitted by families through the Returning Student Registration process will allow building teams and nurses to review the information to determine which students are considered medically fragile. For students who do not have a 504 plan or an IEP, the nurses will contact the family to develop a health care plan. This plan will be developed in conjunction with medical officials to determine appropriate steps to protect the health of the student. For students who do have a 504 plan or an IEP, the Committee on Special Education/504 Committee will work to accommodate student needs.

The school district will share information about the procedures that staff members should follow if they have an underlying medical condition that puts them at greater risk of serious illness from COVID-19 or if they live with someone who does. Generally, these procedures will include contacting their supervisor and the Office of Human Resources.
