Reopening Plan: Attendance and Chronic Absenteeism

In the In-person/Hybrid model, attendance shall be taken and recorded in accordance with the following:

  • For students in kindergarten through grade five, each student’s presence or absence shall be recorded everyday. When a student is dismissed but returns to school the same day, their presence shall also be recorded upon the student’s return. Students who need to leave school, such as for an appointment, will need to go through the required health screening prior to returning to school.
  • For students in grades 6 through 12, each student’s presence or absence shall be recorded in their homeroom for daily attendance and also recorded for each period of scheduled instruction. For days when students are slated to “Learn from Home” various methods will be used to determine student attendance, such as completion of assignments, participation in Google Meets, communication via Google Chat, etc.

Teachers will report students who are chronically absent to the building Student Support Team. The team will use a collection device/form to determine the underlying cause of the absenteeism or lack of engagement. That information will then be used to determine appropriate interventions and supports that are necessary to re-engage the student. If applicable the student or family will be referred for in-person or teletherapy services as well as a possible referral to the school social worker.
