Four Niskayuna High School seniors have been named U.S. Presidential Scholar candidates by the U.S. Department of Education. Johanne Friedman, MJ Lee, Bryan Zhou, and Skylar Litz are among 4,500 students to receive the designation out of more than 3.6 million graduating seniors nationwide. They are now in the running to represent New York as some of the nation’s top high school students.

Each year, up to 161 students are named Presidential Scholars. Candidates are selected for the program based on their outstanding performance on the SAT or ACT. The students are chosen from the list of candidates on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities. Those who advance to become Presidential Scholars are notified in May and are invited to spend several days in June in the nation’s capital.

Congratulations Johanne, MJ, Bryan and Skylar!
