Message to the Class of 2020 and Families: Graduation Plans

Dear Member of the Class of 2020 and Families,

This certainly is not the way in which we all hoped to end your senior year, and we want you all to know we have been thinking of you. We share the disappointment and frustration that the COVID-19 Pandemic has thrust upon us all. Although we cannot invite you and your family to Proctors for our traditional graduation ceremony, we have been working very hard to develop a plan that we hope will bring us together and allow us to celebrate your accomplishments.

We are excited to tell you that we have contracted with the Herff-Jones, Marching Order and Stage Clip Companies to produce a livestreaming presentation of our ceremony. This production will allow each graduate to provide us with a video clip of themselves in cap and gown. Each graduate’s name will be announced as his or her video clip is streamed. Additionally, you will be able to produce a personalized message to share on social media. We will be providing more details on this aspect of the ceremony in the days ahead.

The livestream will include our traditional commencement addresses by our Hall of Fame Inductee and your Class President as well as comments from your class officers, and school and district administration. Therefore, you and your family, whether they live locally or far away, will be able to tune in to watch you graduate on this virtual platform.

We are even more excited to announce that we are working to hold a live premier viewing of your graduation ceremony with your classmates at the Malta Drive-In Theater. We understand that there are discussions at the state level about the potential for holding such events at drive-in theaters and we want you to know that we are positioned to announce such a celebration for our Class of 2020 if it is possible. Hopefully, this special event will take place on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at 9:00 pm. We cannot wait to welcome you and your family to this. We do need to let you know that there will be a limit of one vehicle per graduate/family. The gates will open at 8:00 p.m., as we plan to distribute your diploma to you as you arrive. You will need to bring your student ID with you.

We are pleased to let you know that everything described above does not carry any cost for our families. You should expect to receive an email from us that will provide you with further details about what we will need from you in order to include you in this special virtual event. Please respond to those directions as quickly as possible after they come.

Also, we will be distributing caps and gowns to each of you who placed an order with Herff-Jones on Thursday, May 28, from 10:00 am until noon at the pool entrance to the high school. We will send out more specific information about this ahead of time. If you ordered graduation announcements or similar items, they will be mailed directly to you shortly.

We hope that this news will help to make you feel a bit better. We look forward to watching you on the livestream and celebrating with you as best we can.
