Message to 8th Grade: NHS Program of Studies for Next Year is Available; Course Selection Process Begins

Dear 8th Grade Students and Families:

The purpose of this message is to let you know that the Niskayuna High School Program of Studies for 2020-21 is now available. This is an exciting time, as it begins the process of planning courses for your first year of high school.

New this year, the Program of Studies is available in an online format exclusively: https://www.niskayunaschools.org/niskayuna-high-school/nhs-program-of-studies-2021-22/

We want to let you know that in lieu of our typical 8th Grade Parent Night at Niskayuna High School, we plan to provide an introduction to the planning process and an overview of the opportunities at the high school in a virtual format in early January.

In the meantime, please take a look at the Program of Studies. In particular, we ask you to become familiar with:

In January, students will meet with their counselors to review teacher recommendations for ninth grade course selections. In advance, we encourage students and families to begin thinking about the courses they would like to take next year. All course selections should be finalized by February 5, 2021.

By April, student course requests are made available for parental review and discussion. Any course changes, which require parent/guardian permission, are due by the end of the school year so that schedules can be finalized over the summer.

We look forward to sharing more information with you in January and working with you in the months and years ahead to support your child’s academic and personal growth.

Sincerely,

Niskayuna High School Counseling Center
