Message from Niskayuna High School Principal John Rickert – Friday, Nov. 9

The high school administration has concluded its investigation into the actions that prompted the Monday, Nov. 5, lockdown at Niskayuna High School. An individual student will face disciplinary consequences in accordance with our school Code of Conduct. As a general practice, we do not discuss the details of individual student discipline.

The Niskayuna Police Department is continuing an active criminal investigation into this situation. School officials are working closely with the police. Given that this investigation is ongoing, we are not in a position to share more at this time, even as we recognize our school community’s desire for more information.

It’s important to point out that when conduct in our schools rises to a criminal level, it is subject to both the school Code of Conduct and the criminal justice system. Making a threat against a school is a serious offense that has significant consequences.

I want to again thank our students for their cooperation during the extremely difficult situation they were put into earlier this week. I want to thank all of our faculty and staff members for their extraordinary efforts to support and care for students on Monday and every day. I want to thank the Niskayuna Police Department and the various other agencies that responded on Monday for their work.

We are sensitive to the fact that Monday affected many students deeply. Counselor support is available in our schools, and we encourage our students to talk to a trusted adult at any time if they need support or assistance. There is nothing more important to us than the safety and well-being of our students and staff. As a school and a district we are committed to engaging our students and families on this important topic and to moving forward together.
