Families invited to take cultural proficiency and equity survey

Dear Niskayuna Families:

You are likely aware that our school district has had an active Environment and Culture Advisory Council for more than two years. The district and advisory council have identified the need for a focus on equity and cultural proficiency and professional development. As a result, we initiated a partnership with Generation Ready, which provides training to schools across the country. The purpose of this message is to invite you to complete a family survey that is part of our work with Generation Ready. We also want to make you aware that students in grades 5-12 will be taking a Generation Ready survey in school after Thanksgiving.

Throughout this year, a team of administrators and teachers, from all district schools, are participating in eight days of training through Generation Ready’s Equity Institute. This process includes “equity walks” in each of our schools and the family, teacher and student surveys. The survey is anonymous and should not take longer than 10 minutes to complete. Later in the year, Generation Ready will provide us with a report to help inform future professional development and other next steps.

We thank you for your time and your insight as we work to make Niskayuna’s schools a place where all students feel welcome, respected and supported in their education.
