All Schools to Dismiss 15 Minutes Early
All schools in the district will release students 15 minutes early on Thursday, Oct. 8, for the annually required drill to practice emergency dismissal procedures.
School dismissal times are as follows:
- Elementary – Grades K-4: 1:00 p.m.
- Middle School – Grades 5-8: 2:50 p.m.
- High School: 2:00 p.m.
At each school’s respective early dismissal time, all students who are taking the bus will board their regular bus. Transportation to daycare centers will also take place as usual at this time.
At the elementary level, Kid’s Time programs will operate on Oct. 8. Students who are participating in Kid’s Time will leave the building at the early dismissal time with all other students, faculty, and staff, and will re-enter the building at a set time for the afterschool program.
Students at the middle and high school level who normally walk home from school will be able to do so. High school students who drive to school will be able to drive home as usual on the day of the drill.
Drills are not intended to scare children, but rather to be sure everyone in the building is aware of procedures in the event of an emergency. Teachers will inform students of the drill ahead of time in an age-appropriate manner, particularly at the elementary school. There is nothing that the district takes more seriously than the safety of our students and staff, and preparedness is part of that effort.
Parents who have any questions about the drill should contact their child’s school.
