Join a New Community Committee
Dear Niskayuna School Community Members:
We are seeking community members interested in joining a committee that will study the return on investment that the community makes in our schools.
But first, some background: Three years ago, the Board of Education established a strategic plan that is built upon three pillars: curriculum and programs; school environment and culture; and partnerships. The plan is designed to continue a world-class education in Niskayuna for the current generation of students and those that follow.
Our community has a long-standing tradition of supporting and investing in education and we know that our future plans are not possible without community support. We also know it’s important to demonstrate the value of a Niskayuna education.
For these reasons, we are launching a new committee that will study the return on the investment made in our schools and report back on it to the broader community. If you are interested in participating, please contact me at ctangorra@niskyschools.org or (518) 377-4666, ext. 50706.
Schools often point to graduation rates, college acceptances, fiscal comparisons, awards and honors to demonstrate return on investment. All of those things are important and may factor into this conversation. Yet, the committee will be encouraged to take the broadest approach necessary and converge on a set of metrics that can be used to quantify return on investment systematically and can be tracked over time to evaluate progress and identify trends. .
The timeline for the committee is not fixed, but our hope is that it will be in a position to share a report in tandem with my State of the District presentation next January.
Our plan is to have a cross-section of our broader school community involved in this process. I hope you’ll consider participating.
Sincerely,
Cosimo Tangorra, Jr.
Superintendent of Schools
