District mourns the loss of Niskayuna High School Spanish Teacher Mike Jones

It is with profound sadness that the district shares the news that Niskayuna High School Spanish teacher Mike Jones passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 8, after a battle with cancer. He spent 22 years as a teacher at the high school and made an impact on countless students and fellow educators.

Señor Jones will be remembered as a trusted colleague, mentor and friend. He was a joyful and steady presence at the high school and in our school community over many years. He had a knack for connecting with students, and his commitment to them, and to his profession, was exceptional.

Señor Jones was at the high school right into this fall doing what he loved and did best – teaching Spanish, inspiring young people, and spending time with colleagues. We are grateful for his service and many contributions to the district. He will be missed.

The high school’s crisis team has been activated to support students and staff at this time. High school students were informed during homeroom on Wednesday. Any student who needs assistance should speak with their school counselor.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 900 Madison Ave, Albany, NY 12208. Memories and condolences may be expressed with Señor Jones’ obituary.

Our entire school community mourns the loss of this special educator and friend.
