Five representatives of the district’s partner school system in China visited the district in Mid-March as the two organizations work to advance a relationship that promises benefits for students and teachers in China and Niskayuna.

Niskayuna and the Wisdom Montessori School of Beijing envision a variety of teacher and student exchanges and professional development opportunities. Niskayuna is providing curricular support and general assistance to Wisdom as it expands its current K-6 program to the secondary level.

Over the course of March 12-13, the delegation met with district leaders, toured the district, visited middle and high school classrooms, and presented information to Niskayuna faculty members about the potential to teach in China.

Representatives of both organizations have spent the better part of the last two years developing the partnership. This work included Niskayuna Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra, Jr. and Niskayuna International Scholars Program Director Edward Alston Jr. traveling to China in the fall of 2016.

“It was an honor to host our friends from Wisdom and continue the work of developing this exciting partnership,” Dr. Tangorra said. “Our school district has a strong tradition of global connections. This relationship adds to that tradition, while also promising enriching educational opportunities for students, faculty and our learning community as a whole.”
