Two Niskayuna High School Class of 2019 graduates have been recognized as GE STAR Award recipients by the GE Foundation, the philanthropic foundation of the General Electric Company. The scholarship program was established in 1984 to provide competitive awards to children of eligible GE employees around the world.
This year, Niskayuna’s Lydia Liang and George Tsakalakos were among seven local students to receive the $3,000 award. Each have a parent working at GE Global Research in Niskayuna.
The winners are chosen based on their academics, extracurricular activities, community service, and personal experiences and goals as described in a written statement.
Lydia plans to major in Biology at the University of Notre Dame and George will attend Emory University, where he will double major in Physics and Business.
