The purpose of this message is to provide some clarification on the 2019-20 calendar. It is very unlikely that we will need to hold school during the April recess in 2020.
By factoring in Superintendent’s Conference Days, the calendar includes 185-186 days (depending on grade level) that can be used toward the 180 required by the state. Given the number of events that have consumed snow/emergency days in recent years, when we initially shared the calendar, we felt it was important to let everyone know that if we need additional days we would have to consider April recess. In addition to weather, our school calendar was impacted by a power outage at Glencliff last year and this year’s transformer malfunction at the high school.
However, it’s important to reassure you that we do have some flexibility without needing to resort immediately to scheduling school on April recess next year.
Thank you for your attention to this information and I apologize for any confusion.
Cosimo Tangorra, Jr.
Superintendent of Schools
