Board of Education Policy 4325: Compensatory Education

The Board of Education recognizes its responsibility to provide remedial instruction to students who score below a reference point on state required tests. The Board therefore directs the Superintendent of Schools to oversee the development, maintenance and evaluation of a remedial instruction program in accordance with the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education.

Although remedial instruction is intended primarily for students who require mandated instruction, the Board authorizes the use of remedial instruction resources for other students who need supplemental instruction once the mandated instruction requirements are satisfied.

The staff is required to coordinate remedial instruction with the regular academic program and encouraged to utilize special education and remedial instruction staff in the regular class room when appropriate.
