Congratulations to Hillside Elementary teacher Christine Mathews and Iroquois World Language teacher Cindy Yetto, both for earning prestigious National Board Certification. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards recently announced this year’s newest Board certified teachers.
The performance-based, peer-review process, often referred to as the “gold standard for accomplished teaching,” can be compared to Board certification in medicine.
In order to earn the credential, an educators’ teaching practices is heavily reviewed and demonstration of their effectiveness and accomplishments in the classroom is looked at. Candidates complete 10 assessments that are reviewed by trained teachers in their certified areas.
Niskayuna currently has 34 teachers with National Board Certification, and over time has been a leader in New York state.
