I am thrilled to say that in just a few short days we will be welcoming your children back to school. I began as the superintendent in the district in June. Although it was great to begin at a time of celebration and year-end activities, there is nothing quite like the opening days of school. I look forward to starting a full Niskayuna school year with our students, our faculty and staff, and our families.
I came to Niskayuna because I sensed that this was a special place. I recognized that the Niskayuna community was a place where teachers and students alike have a love for learning – and the support they receive from parents and community members is unmatched. I sensed this is a school district that pursued excellence relentlessly – but puts people first. Every conversation that I have had so far has confirmed my intuition. I want to thank the community for being so welcoming.
This is an exciting time in our district. Our Board of Education is focused on making sure that the students of today and tomorrow have every opportunity to learn, grow and be successful. This summer, we hired several new teachers and staff members. We kicked off a multi-year curriculum building project. I am also pleased to report that we have brought our bus drivers back to the district.
We are focused on making sure that Niskayuna students receive the excellent education and overall school experience that they deserve.
On Monday of next week, I will welcome back Niskayuna teachers and staff members. I will let them know the utmost confidence I have in their ability to do great things for the children of our community. I have this same confidence in our students, and an incredible respect and appreciation for the support they receive from their families. The district's reputation for excellence has always been an effort that involves school, home, and community. I'm proud to be a partner in this effort.
Although it has been a busy couple of months, I'm eager for the (relative) quiet of summer to give way to the bustle of the school year. Our schools are not the same without the sounds of students learning and greeting friends, teachers working with them, and the multitude of events that bring families to school. A Niskayuna school year is about to begin – I hope everyone is as excited as I am.
In closing, if I have not met you yet, I am looking forward to doing so in the days ahead. I will be continuing my "Listening and Learning" open community meetings. Please check the school calendar for details. I will also be attending PTO meetings at each school this fall. Please say hello when you can.
All the best for the year ahead,
Dr. Cosimo Tangorra Jr., Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
