In their school's third appearance in the regional SeaPerch Underwater
Robotics event, Van Antwerp teams landed finishes in the top three places.
Sixteen teams teams participated in the event, held on Tuesday, May 10, at Ballston Spa. The competition includes an obstacle course, a series of finesse challenges, and a presentation/poster, each of which contributed to an overall score.
The winning VA teams had the top three cumulative scores for the finesse challenges and the top speed in the hoop obstacle.
The members of the SeaPerch teams worked alongside mentors from Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) and VA math, science, and technology teachers. They designed, constructed, and tested robots to perform various tasks in the underwater competitions, after receiving initial instruction on submersible vehicles.
The SeaPerch competition is also sponsored by KAPL. Van Antwerp's participation is also made possible due to the dedication of teachers Tom Blechinger, Karen Postlethwait, Christine Tylock, and Michael Petrone.
The teams and students are listed below. Congratulations to all 21 Van Antwerp students for their work as members of the 2016 VA SeaPerch Team!
