On June 9, the Board of Education appointed Eva Jones and John Moskov as assistant principals at Niskayuna High School, effective July 1.

The appointments followed recent interviews with candidates for the position that were conducted by three teams comprised of school and district leaders, teachers, Board members, support staff members, and students.

The two assistant principal openings were the result of Mark Treanor becoming the district's director of student and staff support services in February and Marna Meltzer-McMorris recently being named the high school principal in Berne-Knox-Westerlo.

Jones has been serving as assistant principal on an interim basis since Treanor took the position at the District Office. She became the district's director of ELA 9-12 in 2005, and took on the combined role of director of ELA and social studies in 2014. Over the years she has served on several building and district level committees, including leading the high school's Professional Development Committee.

Moskov is a longtime special education teacher in the district, and has served in a variety of interscholastic athletic coaching roles over the years. He completed his administrative internship in the district, leading to his administrative certification. Moskov was a principal of the joint high school summer school program that the district operated with Schenectady last year.

A large pool of candidates for the assistant principal positions was narrowed to six individuals who met with the three interview teams in late May. Final interviews were conducted jointly by John Yagielski, who was the outgoing interim superintendent at the time, and Dr. Cosimo Tangorra, Jr., who took over as superintendent on June 2.

"Eva and John emerged from the process as the clear choices for these positions," Dr. Tangorra said. "More than their extensive experience at the high school, they are known as educators who put students first. They bring their own bring leadership skills and their passion for working with students and supporting colleagues to these positions. We congratulate them on these new roles."

The high school leadership team is comprised of a principal and two assistant principals, each of whom have responsibility for particular grade levels, areas of the academic program, and areas of student services and school operations.
