The Aquatix Sea Perch Team from Van Antwerp Middle School recently competed
in the National SeaPerch Challenge at UMass Dartmouth. The competition
encompassed 140 high school and middle school teams. There were teams from 25
states, and Puerto Rico. Out of 72 middle school teams, Aquatix came in 17th in
the obstacle course challenge with a time of 1:05. This was the team's personal
best time ever. They came in 19th out of the 72 middle school teams in the
finesse course, earning 24 out of 25 points in 8 minutes and 47 seconds.
The team also created a static display of their engineering design process. The competition was a lot of fun, and the team can be proud of their accomplishments.
The team consists of Arelson Rapisura, Muhammad Tassaddaq, and Braden Jung, all 8th graders at VA. The SeaPerch club is a partnership with KAPL. Van Antwerp teachers Christine Tylock, Karen Postlethwait, Tom Blechinger, and Mike Petrone are involved.
