Niskayuna High School English teacher Carol White was recognized by the
New York State English Council as a 2013 Educator of Excellence at the
council's state conference in Albany in mid-October. The award honors those
teachers who are leaders in the classroom, collaborators with colleagues,
and mentors for teachers new to the profession.
The distinction awards teachers who implement best practices and challenge students to become skillful readers and writers. Award recipients show a dedication to their own learning and to their profession that inspires students and colleagues.
The award was presented at the luncheon at the NYSEC state conference held at the Desmond Hotel, Albany on Friday, October 18th. Teachers from across the state come together at the convention for professional development, including strategies for teaching to the Common Core Learning Standards. New York State Education Department representatives provided updates on new assessments and rigors of the Common Core.
