Board of Education nominating petitions are available

Nominating petitions are currently available for individuals interested in serving on the Board of Education. Elections for the Board of Education take place on the same day as the school budget vote, which is May 20 this year.

Those interested in running for this important role in our community can pick up a petition between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. from the district clerk at the district offices, 1239 Van Antwerp Road. In order for a candidate to appear on the ballot, they must return their petition with the signatures of 111 qualified district voters by 4 p.m. on April 21. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, qualified voters in the school district, and have resided in the district continuously for at least one year before the election. The district clerk can be reached by phone at (518) 377-4666, extension 50712

Board members serve volunteer, three-year terms. The term of the Board of Education members who are elected this coming May will begin on July 1, 2014. The current terms of Board members John Burhmaster and Deborah Oriola expire on June 30.

More information about Board qualifications and the role of Board can be found in this document, "An Overview of Serving as a Board of Education Member," published annually by the district.
