A kindergarten registration period for students entering Niskayuna schools next fall will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 17 and go through Friday, Feb. 9. Children who will turn 5 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2018, can enter kindergarten this coming September.
Families with eligible children who the district is aware of have been sent a kindergarten registration packet in the mail. If you have a child who will begin kindergarten next year and did not receive a packet, please call District Registrar Joan Vertigan at 377-4666 x50714 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
After filling out the forms in the packet, parents are encouraged to come to the District Office to register with Ms. Vertigan. Please come at your own convenience, as no priority is being assigned based on order of registration.
The Registrar’s Office is located at the District Office, 1239 Van Antwerp Road. The entrance to the District Office is on Dexter Street near the corner of Dexter and Van Antwerp Road.
Registration hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., any weekday between Jan. 17 and Feb. 9. Families unable to register during these hours, please call Ms. Vertigan at (518) 377-4666 x50714 to arrange an alternate time.
Students do not need to be present at kindergarten registration.
Registration can also be completed by mail by sending the completed forms/documentation to Registrar Joan Vertigan, Niskayuna Central School District, 1239 Van Antwerp Road, Niskayuna, NY 12309.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Vertigan at the e-mail address or phone number above.
We look forward to welcoming next year’s kindergarten class to Niskayuna!
Special note about flex zones
The district utilizes six flexible attendance zones (“flex zones”) to balance class sizes at the elementary level. These zones are being implemented with each entering kindergarten class. Students who reside in these areas may be assigned to one of two or more schools for the purposes of balancing class sizes. Families who live in flex zones will be provided with a form that enables them to state a school preference. If you are not sure if you live in a flex zone, please contact Ms. Vertigan or consult the attendance zone map..
