MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS...

Friday...May 18, 2012

Today is the last day to order your “Iroquois Gives Back” t-shirt!  Your Student Council is hosting the t-shirt fundraiser with proceeds going directly to The Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center!  Checks should be made payable to Iroquois Middle School.  The t-shirts cost $10.00 and are awesome, so get yours soon and wear it on our “Iroquois Cares” Spirit Day Thursday June 7th.  Thanks so much for supporting a wonderful cause that helps so many kids and their families!

Attention all 8th grade choir members: There is a rehearsal on Monday morning at 8am! There are 42 singers that should be there!  It will be a short rehearsal to begin organizing your Moving Up Ceremony performance, so please make sure you are there.  After Monday, you have 2 weeks off before the next rehearsal.  Continued thanks for all of your commitment.

It’s almost time for this year’s last meeting of Survivor Book Club!  Our book this month is Okay for Now by Gary D. Schmidt, the story of Doug Swietek, a 14 year old in a new town with no friends, an abusive father and a war-damaged older brother.  It’s only after he finds an ally in Lil Spicer that things begin to look up.  Together they find a safe haven at the local library, learning about Audobon’s birds and taking a wild adventure on a Broadway stage.  Join us on Monday, May 21 at 7 PM in the Media Center to discuss this story of love, creativity and survival.

It’s time to start thinking about Jam Day! The annual end-of-the-year talent show is looking for acts! Singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument, skits, and bands; show-off your talents!  (But no lip-synching or singing over a CD!)  Jam Day sign-ups will be held during ELT 9/ Advocacy next week on Tuesday & Wednesday, May 22 & 23. You MUST attend one of these meetings in order to sign up and get an audition time. Auditions will be held only on two dates next month: June 6 and June 7th from 4:15- 6:30. Be prepared to sign up for an audition time when you attend the meeting.

Attention all piano, guitar and bass players:  Jazz Band audition music is now available in Ms. Steeley’s room.  All 6th & 7th grade students wishing to try-out on piano, bass or guitar must get a copy of the music to prepare for the audition.  Auditions will be held the week of June 4th.

If you are 14 years old and plan to work this summer, you need working papers!  Please stop by the Counseling Center and pick up an application sooner rather than later.  Do not wait until the last minute to get this done!

If you are not planning to attend a Niskayuna school next year, please let the Counseling Center know of your plans as soon as possible.

Start looking around the house, in the car and in your lockers for any library books you may still have, especially if they are already overdue!  Mrs. Barmash wants them back and she knows who you are and where to find you!

It’s Sub Day in the cafeteria: Ham subs, potato salad, pickle & chips, mixed berries & low fat milk. Buen Provecho!
