Sick Bank
Sick Leave Bank Protocol
1. Each member of the NTA unit shall contribute
two (2) sick days to the bank on September 4,
2001.2.
Whenever the number of days in the bank is
reduced to equal or less than the number of unit
members, each members shall contribute one
additional sick leave day from the individual's
sick leave accrual.
3. If a unit
member does not have any sick days at the time
of additional collection, their contribution
will be required at the next allocation date. An
employee in the Central Office shall keep track
of such unit members and notify them when the
required contribution is taken.
Procedures
1. Applications for use of the bank shall be in
writing to the Superintendent, or designee.
2. Prior to use
of the sick bank, a teacher must exhaust
available sick leave allowance, except that a
teacher with 10 or more years of service in
Niskayuna may reserve up to ten (10) days, and
other teachers may reserve up to five (5) days.
3. Upon request
of the District, the employee shall provide a
doctor's note or written statement for use of
the sick leave bank.
4. There shall
be an eight-workday, unpaid waiting period
between the exhaustion of the employee's
accumulated sick leave and the use of the sick
leave bank.
5. Sick leave
bank use stops upon the first day of eligibility
of benefits under the district's long-term
disability insurance plan or upon the first day
of availability for work according to a signed,
dated doctor's note.
