Board of Education determines scope of school construction
project
The Board of Education
unanimously decided September 19 on the scope of a school
building project, which residents will vote on January 24.

On September 16, Van Antwerp students celebrated the anniversary
of the writing of The Star-Spangled Banner by learning
the history of the anthem, then performing it together as a
school. The activity was part of the National Anthem Project, a
campaign by the National Association for Music Education to
celebrate and spread knowledge of the song.
Rosendale to be recognized Friday as part of
statewide Activ8Kids! bike tour
The
Activ8Kids! Promotional Bike Ride and School Recognition Event
(a program developed by Gov. George Pataki and the NY State
Health Department) is heading across NY State, and Friday (Sept.
30) will stop at Rosendale.

Niskayuna teacher presents at Oxford; students
featured in Scholastic book
Congratulations to
Iroquois teacher Kelly Millett-Wilson, who was selected to
present at the University of Oxford in England over the summer.
Her presentation was on teaching literacy through classroom
discussion. That same topic -- which Millett-Wilson has been
researching with SUNY Albany's Center for English Learning and
Achievement -- is also featured in a new Scholastic book that
will be released this fall. The book includes Niskayuna
students' work and classroom photographs (including a photo of
student Madeline Tiberio on the cover). Congratulations!
Latin Program honored with state-wide award
Congratulations to the Latin program (including
teachers Meghan Miller and Tom Caffrey), which has been named "Outstanding Latin
Program in New York State" by a state-wide association. The award recognizes quality
Latin programs and Latin teachers of strong dedication and creativity.

Congratulations National Merit Scholarship
Semi-Finalists
Congratulations to the
following students, who have been named National Merit
Scholarship Semi-Finalists, based on their PSAT scores. They
are: Nicole Bieber, Katerina Gross, Leslie Johnston, Matthew
Law, Manisha Padi, Michele Reitz, Kevin Ryan, Jeremy Wolos and
Yingchen Xiong. Less than one percent of U.S. high school
seniors are named semifinalists. Congratulations!
It's going to be a busy year!
The Board of Education recently reviewed the
district's 2005-06 goals, which include publicizing the proposed building project,
exploring ways to expand the high school student day, and reviewing the current program
for academically talented students.

The high school has a modified schedule for
students on Wednesday, September 7 and Thursday, September 8. (Note: School day
