Board of Education appoints Director of Music

graphic bulletOn April 4 the Board of Education appointed Christopher Neubert as Director of Music Education. The appointment was effective July 1.

"Mr. Neubert brings a strong musical background to the program, as well as an in-depth knowledge of our department," said Superintendent Kevin Baughman. "We are very excited about the future of our regionally- and nationally-recognized music program under Chris' leadership."

"I am privileged to be given this opportunity to serve the Niskayuna schools community as Director of Music," he said. "As we all know, this is an important time for our district regarding facilities. I look forward to sharing and working with our school professionals, students, parents and community leaders as we consider the possibilities for continuing musical excellence in Niskayuna schools."

Neubert succeeds Kent Burchill, who retired in June after 22 years of service to the district. Baughman's recommendation to appoint Neubert followed an extensive search process that included input from parents, staff and administrators.

Neubert has served on the Niskayuna High School faculty since 1998, directing and conducting the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Strings, Sinfonia and Show Orchestra. Previously he was director and conductor for the Bethlehem and Shenendehowa school districts.

Neubert's previous leadership experience includes serving as Director of Music Education for the Auburn City School District and Coordinator of Music and Fine Arts for the Eastport School District. In addition to his public school conducting and directing, Neubert is an adjunct professor at The College of Saint Rose and has conducted the Port Jefferson 'POPS' Orchestra and other professional orchestras.

Neubert has a bachelor's degree in music education from the West Chester State University School of Music and a master's degree in music from Ithaca College. He has a post graduate degree in educational administration from Long Island University.

Neubert resides in Saratoga. graphic bullet
