THANK YOU VOTERS!
Thank you to everyone who voted on the 2005-06 district budget on May 17.
The budget passed by a vote of 1,696 to 1,482. The bus proposition passed by a vote of
2,015 to 1,143. Re-elected to the Board of Education were Richard Mathews (1,761 votes)
and Terry Weiner (1,644 votes).

Niskayuna teachers "Bowl for Kids Sake"

Congratulations to Niskayuna teachers, who raised
$2,298 for Big Brothers Big Sisters through a bowling event in April. Forty teachers
participated in the "Bowl for Kids Sake" event. Congratulations!
High School parking change today
On Wednesday, May 25, the senior parking lot at
Niskayuna High School will be closed for "The SafetyBug" drinking and driving
education/prevention event. That day, seniors with parking permits will park at St.

Attention parents: Abstinence programs scheduled for May
The district Health Education Department, with
support from several school, community and county organizations, is presenting an
"Abstinence Education Program" in three evening sessions: May 16, 18 and 24.

Teacher named "most influential"
Congratulations to High School teacher Joe
Carosella, who will be honored at Cornell University on May 24 for being named
"most influential secondary teacher" by Niskayuna High School alumnus Thomas
Wei. Wei is a senior at Cornell and is honoring Carosella as part of his Merrill
Presidential Scholarship. Congratulations!
Welcome to Van Antwerp and Craig principals, music director
Welcome and congratulations to: North Colonie
teacher William Anders, who has been appointed
Craig principal; Mohonasen administrator Luke Rakoczy,
who has been appointed Van Antwerp principal, and Niskayuna High School faculty member
Christopher Neubert, who has been appointed Director
of Music.
Rosendale students and families get jumping

Rosendale Elementary School parents helped the
school celebrate National Physical Education and Sport Week by participating in physical
education classes all last week. As part of the activities, all students also participated
in the "Jump Rope for Heart," on May 6, raising money for the American Heart
Association. (Above, students show their unique jumping style.) Great job Rosendale!

High school musical groups win highest award from state
Congratulations to the Bel Canto Voices and
Concert Chorale, which recently received "Level 6 Gold with Distinction" honors
at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Choral festival. This is the
highest award given by NYSSMA, and judges were impressed with students' professionalism
and musicianship. Congratulations!
Multicultural Society hosts annual International Festival Friday, May 13
Niskayuna High School's Multicultural Society is hosting an evening of cultural fun --
including entertainment and food -- on Friday, May 13. This free event will be fun for the

Congratulations to Health Education and Services
Director Bob Winchester, who has been named the 2005 Community Role Model by
Niskayuna Youth to Youth. The annual award recognizes Niskayuna community who consistently
demonstrate their belief in the value of young people, and support efforts to promote a

Class of 2007 hosting BBQ on May 17;
pre-orders due by May 10
The Class of 2007 is hosting a Giffy's BBQ on May

Budget
hearing May 3
The Board of Education will host a budget public
hearing at the beginning of its 7 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, May 3. The meeting will
be held in the District Office board room.
Meet the Candidates Night -- tonight!
The PTO Council is hosting Meeting the Candidates
Night on Monday, May 2 at 7 p.m. in the Van Antwerp Middle School auditorium. All
are welcome to come meet and ask questions of the candidates for the Board of Education.
