Rosendale Elementary School celebrates the
district's 50th anniversary

Rosendale marked the
district's anniversary by forming a human "50" in June.
Learn about
community events that took place in 2003-04 to celebrate the
milestone.

Niskayuna's Class of
2004 celebrated graduation June 23 at Proctors Theater. The
ceremony include a speech by
Hall of Fame Inductee
Jo Anne Assini about perseverance. Congratulations and good
luck to all the graduates!
Rosendale School donates to soldiers in Iraq

In May and June the
Rosendale Student Council organized a school-wide collection of
items to send to American solders in Iraq, including food, telephone
cards, T-shirts and cameras. They also had every student in the
school sign this banner (above), which will be sent with the
packages. Great job students!
Niskayuna, we have
liftoff!

Birchwood first-graders had fun learning as they
created and fired off rockets in May in Teacher Jan Hebert's class. Above, students
wait patiently for the chemical reaction that sent the rockets into the air.
Congratulations students!
Case of pertussis
(whooping cough) confirmed at Niskayuna High School
One student has been diagnosed with this disease
that affects the respiratory tract. It is unlikely that the disease was spread to other
students, but as a precaution informational letters were mailed to all parents and put in
all staff mailboxes June 14.

Early dismissal on Tuesday, June 22
for elementary schools
Please note: On June 22 students in kindergarten through fifth grades will be dismissed at
10:30 a.m. Middle school students will be dismissed at the regular time.

Two Niskayuna High School teachers surprised with excellence in education awards
On June 8 Niskayuna High School teachers
Catherine Snyder and Paul Scott received the 2004 Edward B. and Sally Murray Award for
Excellence in Education. Presented by the Niskayuna Community Foundation, both teachers
were surprised with a visit to their classroom by NCF, high school and school district
representatives, to announce the honor. Congratulations!

Prism Concert
Wednesday, June 9
Everyone is invited to the Prism Concert, this
Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Niskayuna High School auditorium. Performing will be the
Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Strings, Jazz Ensemble and small ensembles. Want other music

50th Anniversary
Benefit Gala Concert "wows" the crowd
Congratulations to all the performers in the 50th
Anniversary Benefit Gala (held June 5), for their spectacular performance! The evening's
musicians included: the Niskayuna High School Symphony Orchestra, Concert Chorale, special
guest Julie Jordan, and alumni vocal soloists Edward Bee, Jason Dashew, Alison Duncan and
Sherri Strichman.
