New York State Supreme Court Justice named to
Niskayuna Hall of Fame
The Niskayuna Hall
of Fame Selection Committee is pleased to
announce that Acting New York State Supreme Court
Justice Jo Anne Assini, Niskayuna High
School Class of 1970, is the 2004 Hall of Fame
inductee.
Assini was
honored at Niskayuna High School's commencement
ceremony June 23 at Proctors
Theater. The Hall of Fame — located at the main
entrance of Niskayuna High School and founded in
1983 — recognizes Niskayuna graduates who have
made significant contributions to their
professions or communities.
Assini was
appointed acting New York State Supreme Court
Justice in January 2004, making her the first
woman appointed to that position in the history
of the 11 counties comprising New York State's
4th Judicial District. She has also been
Schenectady County Family Court Judge since
2001, and was the first woman elected to
countywide judgeship in Schenectady County
history.
Prior to her
current positions, Assini was a successful sex
crimes and domestic violence prosecutor in the
Schenectady County District Attorney's office
from October 1992 to December 2000. She has also
developed and sponsored numerous legal education
courses, seminars and community forums on
adoptions, youth gangs, domestic violence and
trial tactics.
Assini earned a
bachelor's degree from Ithaca College in 1974, a
master's degree from SUNY Albany in 1977 and a
law degree from Albany Law School in 1988.
Congratulations!
